HAILE AND WILTON PARISH COUNCIL – SPRING 2005 We began the March meeting as a Public Meeting and Karl Melville, Maintenance Engineer from Capita, was there to give us some information about funding for our local roads and to answer questions from the audience. A considerable amount has already been spent on doing some improvements over the last two years but there are parts of the Parish that still require attention. A further £6000 for Haile and £1000 from the Blackbeck roundabout to Haile has already been earmarked for drainage in 2005/6 and in 2006 £6000 will be spent on resurfacing in Wilton. Questions from the audience covered road sweeping, cleaning of gulleys, fixing potholes and who has the responsibility of blocked drains. As we are a Rural Parish some of the responsibilities belong to the farmer/landowner and we have been sent leaflets on “Farming and the Public Highway” which has been produced by CCC in consultation with the NFU copies of which are available via the Clerk. With regard to the de-trunking of the A595 we have attended meetings and supported the Neighbourhood Forums and CALC District responses in opposing this move. Comments have also been made regarding the local Transport Plan. Our second visitor was Mike Pearson, CALC Development Co-ordinator, regarding Quality Parishes. He talked very enthusiastically about what we need to do and how to go about getting Quality Parish Status. Some of the requirements we already fulfil but there are other areas that will require some considerable input. However the Parish Council considered that it would be a beneficial way forward. We were pleased to find that the Milestones are registered as of historical interest and the Parish Boundary Stones of 1859 have now also been registered. One of these stones had been lifted totally out of the ground in the January storm and was firmly horizontally positioned in the roots of a fallen tree. It has now been carefully resited as near as possible to its original position. The Parish Plan is now completed and everyone will have received the Action Plan showing all the things that have been set up and with contact numbers. Without all the input from the parish and those volunteers who came forward and agreed to be involved in working out what to do and then making it happen the Parish Plan would not have happened, so a big thank you to all. We have always been an active community and things will only happen with your support. We hope that you will find enjoyment and encouragement in what has been achieved. The next meeting is on 16th May in the Village Hall starting at 7pm and includes the Annual Parish Meeting. Janice Carrol from CBC will talk to us about Rubbish Collection and Recycling so please join us.
